On American Unity

Because I am politically independent, I relish the fair and balanced perspective I have on political conversations. I have people I love and loathe on both sides of the aisle. It’s taken years to get here, and it has not been easy.

The climate of our country today is heartbreaking. We lack unity because we are immersed in competition, judgement, and ego. If our country is going to heal and be truly strong, we will have to learn civility and to manifest love for each other as we disagree about our politics. Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from past presidents.

“America has never been bound by blood, birth or soil. We are bound by ideas that move us beyond our backgrounds, lift us above our interests, and teach us what it means to be citizens” (George W. Bush, First Presidential Inaugural Address, 2001).

“We are not red states nor blue states. We are the United States of America” (Barack Obama, Presidential Victory Speech, 2008).

Unity is the only way we will survive and thrive. 💙❤️🇺🇸 ❤️💙
